Client: Building & Construction Company
Project Duration: 8 Days
Location: West Norwood, London, SE25
We recently completed a full new tiled roof installation for a building and construction company in West Norwood, SE25. The project involved installing a completely new roofing system, including hip detailing, ridge lines, artificial slate tiles, and a newly leaded dormer. Alongside the roof replacement, we also installed new fascias, guttering, and roofline components to ensure the entire system was finished to a high standard.
This was an 8-day project that required careful planning, efficient installation, and close coordination with the construction company managing the wider works.
The Project Overview
The existing roof required a full upgrade to improve both durability and appearance. The client wanted a modern, long-lasting roofing system that would also complement the property’s style while meeting current building standards.
Our scope of work included:
- New tiled roof installation
- Hip installation on the side elevation
- Ridge line installation
- FRLT breathable membrane installation
- Treated battens fitted across the roof
- Cedar artificial slate tile installation
- New roofline including fascias and guttering
- Installation of a leaded dormer
This combination of materials and installation methods provided a strong, weather-resistant roof designed for long-term performance.
Roof Preparation and Structural Setup
We began by preparing the roof structure and ensuring everything was ready for the new installation. A FRLT breathable membrane was installed across the roof to provide improved ventilation and moisture protection. This helps prevent condensation build-up while also acting as a secondary weather barrier beneath the tiles.
Once the membrane was installed, treated battens were fitted across the roof structure. Using treated battens helps improve durability and ensures the roof framework remains strong and resistant to moisture over time.
This stage is critical in any roof installation, as it provides the foundation for the final tile finish.
Cedar Artificial Slate Installation
For this project, cedar artificial slate tiles were chosen. These tiles provide the traditional appearance of natural slate while offering improved durability and reduced maintenance requirements.
Artificial slate is often preferred for projects like this because it is lightweight, consistent in finish, and designed to withstand UK weather conditions. The cedar finish also gives the roof a clean, high-quality appearance that complements both traditional and modern properties.
Each tile was installed carefully to ensure correct alignment, consistent spacing, and secure fixing across the entire roof surface.
Hip and Ridge Line Installation
The project included installing a hip on the side elevation along with new ridge lines. These areas require particular attention, as they are exposed to the elements and must be installed correctly to prevent water ingress.
We installed the hip and ridge systems to create a secure, weatherproof finish while maintaining a neat and uniform appearance across the roofline.
Proper ridge and hip installation also helps improve the overall strength of the roof and ensures long-term performance.
Leaded Dormer Installation
As part of the works, we also installed a leaded dormer. Lead work plays an important role in waterproofing around dormers and other roof features.
The lead was fitted carefully to ensure a clean finish and reliable weather protection. This helps prevent leaks and protects vulnerable areas where roof sections meet.
Installing leaded dormers requires precision and experience to ensure both performance and appearance meet professional standards.
New Roofline, Fascias and Guttering
To complete the project, we installed new fascias and guttering. Updating the roofline alongside a new roof helps ensure the entire drainage system works effectively.
New fascias improve the appearance of the property and provide support for the guttering system. The new guttering ensures rainwater is directed away from the property correctly, helping prevent water damage and damp issues.
This completed the full roofing system upgrade.
Project Completion
The project was completed over 8 days, working efficiently alongside the building and construction company overseeing the wider works. The new tiled roof now provides improved weather protection, durability, and a clean, professional finish.
The Result
The completed roof in West Norwood now benefits from:
- A fully upgraded tiled roofing system
- Cedar artificial slate for a high-quality finish
- New breathable membrane and treated battens
- Professionally installed hip and ridge lines
- New leaded dormer installation
- New fascias and guttering
- Improved weather protection and long-term durability
This project demonstrates how a full roof replacement can improve both the performance and appearance of a property when installed using the right materials and methods.
